Jernej Omahen

Senior Advisor & Advisory Board Member, Oliver Wyman; former Partner, Goldman Sachs

Jernej Omahen is a Senior Advisor to Oliver Wyman, and a member of its Senior Advisory Board. In this capacity, Jernej focuses on the major European Financial Institutions, their group strategies and the perception of their strategic decisions by the capital markets. He is also a Senior Advisor to Millesian Capital, an investment firm focused on bank investing globally. Jernej was appointed to these positions in 2023. Prior to this, Jernej spent more than 20 years at Goldman Sachs, where, as a Partner of the firm, he headed the European Financial Institutions Group, within Global investment research.  

Over his time at Goldman Sachs, Jernej had primary coverage responsibility for most groups of European banks, with an emphasis on capital markets focused institutions. Jernej was appointed co-head of European Banks Research in 2009, at which point he assumed overall coverage responsibility for the European banks sector. He was appointed Head of European Financial Institutions Group in 2010, which included European Banks, Insurance, Diversified Financials (Exchanges, Asset Management & Holding Co) and Real Estate companies, a position he held for over a decade.In addition, Jernej contributed extensively to assessing Goldman Sachs’ strategy, and its growth opportunities in Europe.

Over his tenure, Jernej was recognized as a thought leader with a deep understanding of the European Financials sector, who has helped build many of the Goldman Sachs’ key relationships with external stakeholders in Europe, including investors, corporates, regulators and policymakers.Jernej joined Goldman Sachs in 2001 as a financial analyst. He was named managing director in 2009 and partner in 2014, a position he held until 2022.

Outside of Goldman Sachs, Jernej was a member of the European Central Bank’s Macroprudential Policies and Financial Stability Contact Group (2012-’22).
